Besides the Founder Members, there are five categories of membership within SILA, these are: |

1. Fellow
Persons who have been a MEMBER for an uninterrupted period of 8 years and who satisfy the Council that they have been demonstrably advanced the standards of landscape architecture; demonstrated their devotion and service to the institution an has brought honour to the institution and profession.

2. Member
Persons who possess a recognised university degree in landscape architecture and have been professionally engaged in the practice of landscape architecture for at least 3 years; OR persons who have been an ASSOCIATE of the institute for 3 consecutive years, or have been professionally engaged in the practice of landscape architecture for at least 3 years, whichever comes first, and who satisfy the Council that they have demonstrably advanced the standards of landscape architecture.

3. Associate
Persons who possess a recognised degree in landscape architecture and have been professionally engaged in the practice of landscape architecture for less than 3 years, OR who have been actively engaged in the practice of landscape architecture for more than 10 years prior to the establishment of the institute.

4. Affiliate
Persons in related professions who possess recognised qualifications / experience in their particular profession and have been professionally engaged in the practice of their profession for more than 1 year.

5. Student Member
Persons who are undergoing a course of study in landscape architecture at a recognised tertiary institution of learning.
